Web Home Page: This 1 000 km reserve has a wide range of habitats; miombo and mopane woodland, marshland and rocky hills. Over 250 bird species occur in the marsh area, and around Lake Kzuni, on the south-eastern boundary, there is a small population of hippopotamus. The woodland on the flood plains of the South Rukuru River supports fairly high densities of elephant, buffalo, roan, impala and warthog, as well as lion and leopard. Location: Northern Malawi; north of Lilongwe. Access: From Lilingwe take the M1 north-wards, then turn left onto the M9 via Mzimba and Euthini. Turn left into the reserve just after crossing the South Rukuru River. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended to negotiate this road during the rainy season. Permission to enter the reserve must be obtained in advance. Accommodation: Lake Kazuni Camp has 5 2-bed tents on concrete bases; pit toilets, Khaya camping site has basic facilities. Visitors are permitted to camp elsewhere but there are no facilities. Other facilities: A 124 km network of game-viewing roads, passable only in the dry season; a picnic site at Lake Kazuni.
